  • Challenge

Embedded insurance only works if a new retail partner can launch in weeks. Traditional approval cycles, built for one product and one channel at a time, make that hard for insurers and partners alike.

  • Solution

Fidamy and Nationale-Nederlanden agreed one partner-agnostic approval for electronic device insurance, with underwriting guardrails set up front. Fidamy runs distribution, policy administration and claims, while NN provides the insurance capacity behind every policy.

Every embedded insurance proposition rests on two things: a distribution engine that fits naturally into a partner's customer journey, and an insurer that stands behind every policy. Fidamy and NN Group built both together.

A venture built with NN

Fidamy was launched in close collaboration with NN Group and is backed by NN Ventures, the group's corporate venture builder. NN Group serves around 18 million customers in 10 countries with 16,000 colleagues. In the Netherlands it operates as Nationale-Nederlanden, one of the country's leading insurers.

Fidamy is licensed by the Dutch Authority for the Financial Markets (AFM) and operates as a managing general agent (MGA). It writes its electronic device insurance under delegated authority from Nationale-Nederlanden, which provides the insurance capacity behind each policy.

One approval, many partners

Most insurance products are approved for a single channel. Fidamy and NN took a different route. The electronic device insurance was approved once, as a partner-agnostic product, with clear underwriting guardrails agreed up front: price bands, excesses and a standard repair solution.

That design is what makes embedded distribution scale. Onboarding a new retailer becomes a configuration exercise on Fidamy's platform rather than a new product project, and later launches follow a lighter approval route.

From approval to live in weeks

Nationale-Nederlanden approved the product in August 2025. Less than four weeks later, after a final joint run-through, Fidamy's electronic device insurance went live, with The Phone Lab ready as its launch repair partner.

Since then, the same product has gone live with very different partners:

  • Used Products, the franchise chain for new and second-hand electronics, across its webshop, tills and shop floor.
  • Computerzaak, the refurbished laptop specialist, at checkout and in every store.
  • NoLongerLost, the lost-item recovery brand, through a simple partner link with no API work.
  • The Phone Lab, the repair specialist that turns claims into walk-in repairs.

Built to be governed

Delegated authority comes with responsibility. Fidamy and NN work within a structured governance framework with regular portfolio reporting and reviews, so the insurer keeps full visibility as the portfolio grows.

What comes next

With the foundations in place, the collaboration keeps moving into new channels. Most recently, Fidamy and NN Ventures brought device insurance into ChatGPT, using the same APIs that power Fidamy's retail partners.
