  • Challenge

Second-hand and refurbished devices are often harder to insure, and Used Products sells through franchise stores, tills and webshops at the same time. It needed protection that fitted every channel without adding work for store staff.

  • Solution

Fidamy connected to the Used Products webshop and till system through its Price Indication and Intent APIs, added QR codes for the shop floor, and handles premium collection, policy administration and claims end to end.

Used Products is a household name for anyone buying or selling electronics second-hand in the Netherlands. The franchise chain buys, sells and trades everything from smartphones and laptops to consoles and cameras, with more than 70 stores across Europe and a growing online business.

For a business built on giving devices a second life, protection is a natural add-on. Someone buying a refurbished phone wants the same peace of mind as someone buying new.

Insurance that treats refurbished like new

Fidamy's electronic device insurance, underwritten by Nationale-Nederlanden, covers new, used and refurbished devices up to 12 months old. Customers choose between two packages: one for accidental damage, water damage and technical defects outside warranty, and an extended package that adds theft. They can pay monthly or yearly.

That makes protection part of the circular economy story. A second-hand device is worth protecting, and a device that gets repaired stays in use for longer.

One integration, three channels

Used Products sells online, at the till and on the shop floor, so the protection had to work everywhere. Fidamy connected each channel using the same building blocks:

  • Webshop: Fidamy's Price Indication API shows a personal price right on the product page. Customers add protection at checkout and confirm it in Fidamy's express flow.
  • At the till: staff register the sale in the Used Products till system, which sends the device and customer details straight to Fidamy. The customer completes the policy by email, and every sale is tracked per store.
  • On the shop floor: QR codes on posters and flyers open Fidamy's flow on the customer's own phone, so they can take out cover in their own time.

Live in under seven weeks

The first meeting took place in early September 2025. By mid-October, the webshop integration was live and the first stores were selling protection at the till.

Fidamy supplied everything the stores needed to get going: posters, flyers, a one-page guide for staff and a training video in Dutch. Since then, the programme has grown beyond smartphones to tablets, laptops and more device categories.

Insurance without the overhead

Used Products offers protection without running an insurance operation. Fidamy collects premiums, administers every policy and handles claims, while each store focuses on what it does best: helping customers find the right device.
